I've just completed a quick interactive experiment. Please take a look.

This is an interactive conversation, and visual story combined. It deals with a controversial, topical and emotive local issue, concerning the development of Crystal Palace park (south London) after long years of neglect (it was once the pride of the Empire then left abandoned for seventy years). Lots of plans for the park are currently being put forward, and local people consulted extensively.

It occurred to me that one important voice is missing from the consultation, that of the master architect and plannner Joseph Paxton, who conceived the original design for the park. I thought it would be interesting to imagine his point of view, and so the idea here is you can take a walk with him through the park and have a chat.

I've tried here to make this online interactive story unfold as a conversation, which is often considered the highest form of (or ultimate) interactivity. The work is inspired by the 'Eliza' project, an interactive psuedo therapist/ counsellor which was built many years ago: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ELIZA). I hope the conversation format will make the work more objective, and present an independent view of the situation, avoiding one side or the other, and local politics.

The conversation is limited, and only as meaningful as the number of words the project recognises, but I can keep expanding this. Please don't get frustrated if Paxton doesn't understand you!

I hope the work functions on a deeper level, making people question themselves. I realise the subject matter is very local - and by its nature of limited appeal and exposure. The project is included in a local exhibition presenting proposals and plans for the park, and I'm curious about people's reactions to this work, as it doesn't really fit with all the other formal presentations. In many ways it subverts what the plans are saying, and that's my real intention.Blogger prowltag:netbehaviour.ning.com,2008-02-02:1975116:BlogPost:19412008-02-02T10:46:47.000ZInterventTech (claire_w)http://netbehaviour.ning.com/profile/claire_w

Need a project for the new year? You could consider supporting, contributing to, or starting an open movie. The open movie concept gained attention with the release of Elephants Dream in 2006. Following its success, the Blender Foundation is developing a follow up open movie called Peach, set for completion later this year.

http://tinyurl.com/2w5sbl
What is InterventTech: >> ?tag:netbehaviour.ning.com,2008-01-13:1975116:BlogPost:4282008-01-13T16:47:16.000ZInterventTech (claire_w)http://netbehaviour.ning.com/profile/claire_w

Most I would say erudits, Phds theorititians from this part of the world do not participate in internet life unless it is required or comes from a well known, established media.
This leaves us with an extremely institutionalized corps of people whose input could somehow change or improve the view that we can develop of our own particular reality.
Years ago, after the internet bursted into a more massive and participative media, I decided to stop talking English. I felt the need of expressing the entire world in my own language, no matter if that would mean less feedback or even none.
Now I see that this decision has had strong consecuences in the way I speak and write this language that I used to mage fluently. I now speak and think in English as a Latin american, which is ok, because that's what I am, and that's how the process of becoming what I am manifests itself in the lingüistic approach of my own communication.
So I hope no one bothers much with my latino English, and I also hope I will start remembering words and expressions as soon as I start writing.

Indira
Indecenttag:netbehaviour.ning.com,2008-01-12:1975116:BlogPost:2742008-01-12T13:57:14.000Zruthchttp://netbehaviour.ning.com/profile/ruthc

It seems that using blogs is the best feature here for promoting web sites, events and projects. I think that everything else is probably obvious, but if anyone has any trouble just ask :-)
